Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry


Job Description: 

The Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry (DRE/YM) is a full-time (preferred) or part-time (negotiable) position. The Director must be a practicing Catholic and in good standing with the Church. He/She must also be a person of prayer who is committed to the authentic teaching of the Catholic faith.

The Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry reports directly to the Pastor or his delegate. As a member of the parish staff, the Director works with other staff members to foster and maintain a working environment where worship, prayer, hospitality, and learning are the primary motivators.

The Director of Religious Education is a professional catechetical leader who assists the teens and children of the parish in their faith formation and sacramental preparation. 



Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and direct parish Religious Education program for children K-12, according to the guidelines of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis for the Diocese of Baker. 

The following are the responsibilities associated with this position:

  • Ensure sufficient number of Catechists and assistants to maintain programs. 

  • Attend diocesan zoom meetings and other required meetings for the parish.

  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding program requirements.

  • Keep all paper and electronic documents for integrity of the program. 

  • Personally meet and register new families/children into the program.

  • Order and process all necessary catechetical materials.

  • Assure compliance with all Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements, policies, procedures, and directives.

  • Oversee the sacramental preparation process for First Penance, First Eucharist, and Confirmation

  • Oversee youth ministry programs including Youth Group, VBS, and inter-parish youth activities. 

  • Oversee Children’s Dismissal (Liturgy of the Word) program.

  • Compile necessary materials for use with children

  • Assure compliance with all Diocesan Safe Environment (Circle of Grace) requirements.

  • Performs other tasks as agreed upon with the Pastor

  • Conducts all responsibilities with utmost discretion and confidentiality


Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (Theology, Religious Studies, Education, related field) preferred. 

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. 

Strong Organizational Skills: Must have the ability to plan, implement, and oversee educational program while being sensitive and responsive to the needs and life situation of individuals and families.

Strong Interpersonal Skills: Must have the ability to communicate effectively with parishioners and staff; be available on some weekends and evenings.

Strong Pastoral Skills: Must have a strong faith and spirituality and an ability to communicate that faith and spirituality in a manner consistent with the pastoral needs of the recipient.

Strong Computer Skills: Ability to use basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office or its Mac equivalents.
